The system is compatible with both the iee 802.11b and 802.11g wireless
standards. these are readily available for approx. £25 (see bottom of page).
In your cards wireless setup you will have a facility to 'search for available
wireless networks'. When you do this you should see the 'Royal Oak' network as
available. Select this and click on 'Connect' and you should now be connected
and able to browse the internet.
You will be asked for a password.... get it from Tina or Colin !
You should never conduct unsecured transactions that include any account or
password information over public hotspots using FTP, email, or the Web. Try to
use SSL for email (POP and SMTP), or read your email with a Web browser using an
SSL connection. Ask your ISP if they offer SSL secure web-based email.
Be sure to set your TCP/IP properties to "Obtain and IP address automatically" (DHCP).
Make sure your computer is not configured to automatically use a dial-up
connection.
If requested, choose Infrastructure mode rather than ad-hoc mode.
Make sure your battery is fully charged.
Depending on your mail settings you may well be able to download your email,
however sending mail is usually set up for your 'home' network and will be
unlikely to work from this system.
